There’s no banner on this site, and that’s not an oversight. Swindl. sets four cookies, every one of them doing something you asked it to do. There’s no analytics, no advertising, no tracking pixels, and nothing from anybody else that you haven’t asked for — so under the rules there’s nothing to ask your permission for, and a pop-up would be theatre.
The one thing you can ask for is a film. The videos on our front page are a still picture until you press play; pressing play loads that video from YouTube, in its privacy-enhanced mode, and from then on YouTube may store things on your device the way its player does anywhere. Don’t press play and nothing of YouTube’s loads at all.
| Cookie | What it’s for | How long |
|---|---|---|
| sessionid | Keeps you signed in on this device | 1 year |
| csrftoken | Stops another website submitting forms as you | 1 year |
| swindl_player | Remembers which player you are, so you can change your own signup without typing your name again | 1 year |
| swindl_scorer | Remembers that you took your group’s card, so the scoring screen knows whose scores you’re entering | 1 day |
Your phone also keeps your unsent scores in its own storage while you’re out on the course with no signal. That never leaves the phone until it reaches us, and it’s cleared once the scores are in.
Blocking these will break signing in and score entry, because they aren’t optional extras — they’re how those things work. What we hold and why.
